And it is done

So, here we are. Months after I first started, and a month later than I wanted to it to be, but together we've made it.

This is the final cut of my film. I do realise there are quite a few issues with it still, but I'm going to put that down in my evaluation and the fact that it was really my first time doing something this complex, even if it was just in iMovie.

So please, enjoy and comment and like and send it around the world - that was the point of it after all.

So this is it.

I'm filing this week. No lies, no disappointment. I want to have at lest 80% of everything done by the end of this week, if not more. So we shall see how it goes. I'm very scared, as I still know nothing about filming, or lighting or anything. This is going to be an interesting film... Wish me luck, lads.

O! Blogspot, I have missed you.

I'm so sorry I've not been updating this, but as ever there isn't really a lot to say as, for all my hopes, wants and wishes for everything to have been filmed by now, I'm afraid that is not the case. I couldn't get a hold of the equipment in the time frame that I wanted, and so I've been film-less over the Easter holidays, ploughing through other essays and trying to get everything done by early May, allowing me to sit and concentrate on nothing but dissertation for the last few weeks of my University career. Scared does not even cover my anxiety over this. And so, because of this, my portfolio is lacking, I've not updated Jesse's website in a long, long time. And so, I'm going to get this essay out of the way and dust off that Wordpress account and get to it. I'd say keep your eyes peeled for what's going to happen next but it could take a while.

Next Week

Just want to say a massive thank you to Tegan and Ieva for everything they did towards the Little Poetry Project, and for the lovely certificate presented to Jesse and myself last night at the Bath Storytelling Circle. I'm terribly sorry for my swift exit! But all your support over the last few months has been greatly appreciated and we couldn't have got even this far without you.

And I would love to have another shout out to Lorna Leigh Harrington for her help with the illustration - please employ her, she's epic. website: http://www.lornaleigh.blogspot.co.uk/

And now for something completely different:

Next week we're filming. Like, full on proper filming - this is it. This is what it's all been coming down to and I'm so, so scared. But I'll get over that and things will get done and I will have a poetry advert video by the end of it. In theory...

So if you see me round, with a slightly stressed look on my face, a bemused poet and a camera just say hello, offer me and give Jesse some biscuits. We all have our vices.

If anyone wants to help with this, that's cool. Contact me at ellen.melhuish09@bathspa.ac.uk and I'll let you know if you can be of use.

Good times.

The Final Preparations for the Literature Festival!

Exciting times. So we've now got a timetable, a filimg permit, flyers, badges AND an offical slot in the BRSLI's hour long performance medley of the acts in the Voice of Bath Project (1.30-2.30, upstairs).

We've even got a map of the route that's taking place. Schwing.

Take a look at his newly updated website:

Things are looking good, guys. Let's just keep our fingers crossed and see what we can do.

Action Stations

Man your posts, Men. We are a-go.

Things have been quiet on here, which I'm sure the regular readers (that I kid myself exist) will know, shows nothing has really been going on. Until the last few days.

Mostly, I've been seeing Jesse perform whilst focusing on other uni deadlines and such. However, it is now crunch time as we have the Bath Literature Festival starting THIS FRIDAY. You can catch Jesse and the other Voices of Bath: Voices in the City performers around town from 10 am - 4pm with some of us in a special performance at the BRLSI between 1.30 and 2.30. I'm not sure on the room number though!

But, because I'd not realised how close the deadline was I've been rushing around filling out risk assessments left, right and, of course, centre in time for the filming on Friday. I've got to rush to the film office tomorrow and hand over the eight, yes eight, risk assessments I've filled out, as well as one for the filming equipment. I nearly had a heart attack on Friday as I thought I was going to have to pay for a permit as well as lots of other things, but thankfully being a student gave me another get out of jail free card. Or in this instance, a 'film for free' card. Huzzah.

I also sat down with my tutor today and finally worked my way around the mental block I've been having for MONTHS over how I'm going to convey the imagery in the poem without mimetically representing it word-for-image. This was immensely useful and I should have done it long ago - I might have been editing by now instead of panicking - but we live and learn, it will all go in the 3500 word essay at the end of the year. And people doing written dissertations thought they had it hard!

In the last few weeks I've also been working in conjunction with Lorna-Leigh Harrington my awesome Illustrator friend to get some flyer designs sorted for Jesse to hand out at the Literature Festival and afterwards, I'm sure. Here are the designs with the front cover Illustrations done by Miss. Lorna-Leigh. Please look at her blog and support her in any way you can, she is a great artist and I hope to help her out by having do this commission (yah, I paid her for this).

I think that's about it for general updates, so here's a little promotion for Jesse as he's performing tomorrow night at the Bath Live Art Project at The Bell in the back bar. £3 entry if you don't dress up (1950's) and £2 if you do! It's looking to be a good night!

See you all there.

More events!

Hot off the press, two new events confirmed for Jesse to be performing at, the nitty gritty details can be found here on Jesse's site:
http://jesseperrett.wordpress.com

The next event, The Speakeasy at Ye Olde Farmhouse, is something a little special as I will also be performing two short stories, something that I've never done before so that will be lovely - but of course Jesse will have most of the limelight out of us. There will be an eclectic mix of other spoken word as well so it should be quite an exciting event.

Jesse will also be performing on the 20th March at the next Bath Storytelling Circle in The Raven pub so do check that out.

Project wise I've now fixed the technical glitch that I was having between Mac and camera so this weekend will be full of editing, which will be nice. I plan to have a 'bloopers' test video on the website at some point next week, as well as a few photos as last. I don't own a digital camera, I rely on disposables, so it's a lengthly process to use them all wisely and then have them developed. It's worth it though so it's all exciting and things are underway!

Keeping Busy

So it seems that I'm posting on here once a week now, which is good because it means that I'm actually doing some work!

Jesse's website seems to have been doing quite well so far, although page hits are dropping every now again so check him out.

He's performing again tonight at his weekly spot at The Bell Inn, Bath at their The Blind Tiger Playgroup open mic night. Please do to along, all the details are on Jesse's site.

I've also been playing about with some filming over the weekend so I'm hoping to have some preview videos up over the next week, once the camera and my MacBook start talking to each other - they're having a constant domestic at the moment but I'm hoping to get them into some sort of technology relationship counselling today.

I've asked an illustrator friend of mine to help with the flyer designs so that's all very exciting and to come in the next few weeks. Her blog is here: http://www.lornaleigh.blogspot.com/ so do have a little look on there as well - she's rather good!

Everything's moving quite nicely really, it's just that it's all work that's happening off-screen so this will look empty for a little while. I have, however, now had my assessments agreed with my tutor, so that's made this project a little more real as it's put a lot of pressure on the film being quite good as it could really affect my grade. Should probably get filming then.

Some Promotion

Things have been ticking over quite nicely over the last week, I've been out taking location photos as well getting a lot of things sorted for Jesse's website (soon to be unveiled).

Jesse himself as also been quite busy, his performance last week at The Bell was a total and roaring success! The short set was comedic and humbling with an imaginary gun fight the likes you've only seen in Spaced.

Jesse will be performing TONIGHT at The Hip Yak Poetry Shack.

This event is mostly the bigger players in the local poetry world but Jesse has been able to secure himself a slot for one or two poems.

The night is being held at The Porter Cellar Bar, doors 7.30
Entry £5

He may also be at The Bell again tomorrow night, he hasn't confirmed that with me yet, but go along anyway - it's a fantastic night!

Hope ya'll enjoy yourselves now.

What happens next?

I've had a massive productive boost over the last few days and I've secured a camera to play around with over the next couple of months as well as gathering filming locations and updating my physical portfolio, winning all round really.

So what's next for the project?

First of all I'm going to be working quite hard on getting my portfolio up-to-date and figuring out locations/perhaps some sort of story that's befitting for the poem.
I will also be working on the website for Jesse so he has somewhere sleek to upload be work to as well as a place for people to visit once they have seen the advert, or seen Jesse at the Bath Literature Festival (2nd March in and around Bath for those of you who don't know. See the programme here.).

I also have a couple of deadlines for the Voices of Bath troupe to complete by March so I will be, slowly but surely, working on those as well.

If any of you want to see Jesse in action this week he'll be performing at the Open Mic night at The Bell from 9pm Thursday.

It's getting there...

Yikes. I really should be updating this more often and so if there is anyone out there that reads this regularly, I'm sorry!

So we've now had Christmas and I've busted out a couple more deadlines so for the next weeks I'll be full of dissertation dedication. I'm hopefully going to start filming in the next few weeks - just some rough cuts to play around with the equipment and the like.

I got my mark back yesterday for my dissertation project proposal. Nailed it with a 68 and I think that it's a document that will really help me keep on track better (now that I know it's a worthwhile piece of work!) and keep at it. I'm going to be talking to The Little Theatre on Monday as well as looking into sponsorship from the University if I need it, but that depends on what The Little Theatre says. So this weekend is going to be catching up on my portfolio and then moving on to looking into how to make a successful Wordpress website for Jesse.

I think that's everything, it's been a quiet time on the Project front, but don't fear! I'll get there.
